Hayrides and Pumpkins

Another fun fall tradition is visiting the farms in the area.  We went down to Wilson Farms to go on their "Spooky Hayride" and enjoy some of their tasty treats. The free hayride runs for a few hours each day and the field is filled with witch statues, aliens, monsters etc (none of which are really spooky, so it was perfect for my boys. :)  We got a free apple and candy corn at the end and then bought some apple cider, apple cider donuts, cranberries, and a rugosa squash...all of which were absolutely delicious.

On the hayride. :)
One of the more impressive decorations.
And Alan loved looking at these painted pumpkins.
On the Monday before Halloween we had a wonderful visit from hurricane Sandy.  We lucked out and didn't even lose power.  But it was pretty windy and rainy and Scott had the day off of work.  So we decided to carve pumpkins for Family Home Evening and also work on 72 hour kits!  As exciting as the 72 hour kits were, I only managed to get pictures of the pumpkin carving. :)

Anne and Alan were excellent seed separators.  We toatsed the seeds that evening.
And James was pretty content playing with the pumpkin top.
Helping daddy scoop out the seeds.
Alan has been on a lion king kick lately, so we made a simba pumpkin and a happy mad pumpkin.
The whole crew!
Happy Halloween!

  1. I love these!! The one getting the seeds out totally cracks me up;Scott always hated putting his hands in the squishy pumpkin and is probably very happy that he has someone to 'help' him.
